Subaru Forester: A Crossover With A Strong Promise

For Subaru Forester, to be crowned Motor Trend’s 2014 SUV of the Year is certainly a big feather in its cap.

Motor Trend is a well-known American automobile magazine with a monthly circulation of more than one million readers. Admittedly, a rating by this magazine is certainly a boost to the  Subaru Forester image.

Here is a quick short list of Forester’s strong points:

• Better efficiency
• Added power
• Increased cargo volume
• Roomy interior

There is broad consensus that this crossover is good value for your money, combining great driving experience with a lot of trendy features.

The compact sports utility market has been in fierce competition in recent years. Each automaker has been trying to get an edge over others by enhancing fuel economy, adding luxury, improving performance, and increasing safety features.

Subaru does not want to be left behind in the race. It is joining the fracas with more room, better fuel economy, and novel features,  all based on the groundwork done on the revamped Impreza unveiled in 2011.

One of the features consumers liked about this crossover is the addition of 3.7 inches more legroom in the rear, a definitive advantage for families and children. At least on this score, Subaru Forester is etching over Toyota RAV 4 and other competitors.

High-tech features are no less. This Forester has adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning system, pre-collision braking, and high intensity discharge low-beam headlights.

It is the mechanical upgrades that perk up Subaru performance. The earlier old-fashioned 4-speed automatic is now replaced with Continuously Variable Transmission (C.V.T) that provides quick response to acceleration.

One of the engine choices is the turbo-charged direct injection 4 rated at 250 HP at 5600 rpm. This workhorse accelerates vehicle from zero to 60 miles per hour in 9.3 seconds with C.V.T.

Even though Honda is leading in sales in this segment with its CR-V, the Subaru Forester is a serious contender.
